The proposed bulk sale of weeks to Universal Mergers and Aquisitions appears to be very very bad for ABC. Many members here in Aruba have read the draft contract and feel this sale must be stopped. Our concerned group feels that these club owned weeks ( 3%, three percent of our total weeks) should not be sold to ANY one person or entity-- especially at huge discount! At 97% of available weeks sold to individuals we DONOT "urgently" need to sell ANY weeks----to risk our clubs future for the small amount of annual income this proposed bulk sale will generate is not wise in our opinion.
Among many issues which we will address as we build this site is the very serious fact that the board is intending to sell weeks never offered to the membership as part of this bulk sale. Weeks that have not previously and are currently NOT on the official ABC web site inventory. These weeks are proposed to be sold for 50% of list price--weeks not even listed in a normal way a member could even know that they were for sale. Universal Aquisitions would also get the exclusive right to purchase all future weeks aquired by the club for whatever reason at 50% on the dollar--weeks no member will ever be given the opportunity to buy from the club--- even at full market value!. These weeks would then be sold (maybe--maybe not) by the "Aquisition" company as they will now own a block of several hundred weeks thoughout the year(maybe they want to rent their weeks like a hotel as nothing in the contract prevents that or simply slowly accumulate at discount a controlling interest in the club!). The "Special Newsletter" and followup email indicated these weeks were only summer undesirable type weeks. Suddenly, however, after many questions about these club owned weeks from our group of concerned members, some 60 plus weeks appeared on the computer display at the ABC resale office overnight Jan 5. Included were weeks as valuable as week 51 and 52 owned by the club that the Board is proposing to sell for this 50% discount!!!!! As of today, these weeks still are not listed for sale on the official ABC web site as inventory and the only way any member could know about these weeks is if you were here in Aruba this week!
The draft contract also gives the "Aquisition" company exclusive rights to sales and resales at the club as long as they own at least 25 weeks (READ FOREVER!!)--a free office--free internet and telephone for 3 years.
It is important to note that the Board/Admin staff has refused us a copy of the contract to share with the membership. They have also denied us both an electronic(computer data disc) copy and printed copy of the membership names and contact information. Upon our group retaining an attorney and demanding our rights according to the bylaws, the Board/staff on Jan 5 gave us access to a copy machine to manually copy a printed member list that had censored all contact information other than your postal mailing address. A tactic that has severely limited our ability to contact members to share our information on this proposed sale. We need your contact information for future communications. PLEASE click on the contact page and provide us with contact information--especially your EMAIL address. If you don't have email-- have someone you know and trust , such as a family member or trusted friend to be the email contact for you. We members can no longer be kept in the dark--divided and unable to easily and cost effectively know and contact each other to share counter opinions and ideas on such issues as this. We believe the vast majority of Members do not want what is currently proposed by the Board ----we all want to keep our ABC the same wonderful club it is for now and the future as we pass it down to our children and grandchildren.
Please if you have received a ballot and not voted--- PLEASE vote NO immediately----and promptly mail priority to arrive by the deadline. If you are here in Aruba go to the Executive office and collect an official ballot and vote there. Our group has talked to several hundred members over the last 2 weeks and virtually none had received this mail ballot prior to vacation, of those voting here the NO vote is overwhelming but we need many NO votes. As of this moment we do not know what those of you not here can do other than to contact the club office and request instruction on how to get your ballot in order to get your NO vote in by Jan 15.
PLEASE VOTE NO
