The following was emailed to over 1100 owners .
The Aruba Beach Club Members Group encourages all owners to vote and mail their proxy ballots for the 2009 Aruba Beach Club Convocation. Our club needs the support and involvement of all members in addition to paying the annual maintenance fees. We all need to take a proactive interest in our beautiful club beyond our annual usage of the facility.
We encourage you to consider how important the vote for a Board Member is and the power the By-Laws and Articles bestows upon the Board. Of special concern is the fact that the current Board is the “Nominating Committee” for Board elections. Therefore, Mr. Mintzer, Mr. Pitocchelli, Mr. Titone, Mr. Perrino, and Dr. Gilmore themselves nominated the slate of 6 candidates and also picked the 3 that they recommend we vote for on the 2009 Convocation ballot.
WE BELIEVE IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE!
By electing the 3 candidates NOT handpicked by the Board we can certainly bring about some change. All three of these gentlemen seem well qualified to be board members when reviewing the information provided on page 9 of the Convocation. We believe that by electing three totally new Board members, rather than re-electing the two current Board members: Mr. Titone and Mr. Perrino, or Mr. Parolisi as recommended by the Board, this will improve the chances for real change and fresh ideas from our new Board.
We encourage you to consider qualifications and vote for the following three of the NEW Board candidates from the 2009 slate:
Mr. D. Berg, Mr. D. Loux, and Mr. A, Ross.
We do not presume to tell anyone how to vote. However, please remember the unprofessional behavior on the part of the current Board last year. Remember how the Board’s actions caused many of us to question its ability to make sound decisions on behalf of the club. Remember how the current Board members chose to fight the owners and ignored our requests for input and full disclosure? Remember how many of the members called for the Board’s collective resignation. Those painful memories make us excited about the fact that this year we have the opportunity to vote for new thinking and energy by electing 3 new members to the ABC Board of Directors. It is also very interesting to note many items under “Other Business” from the 2008 Convocation minutes were called to the attention of the Board. Six of them are concerned with improving communication and transparency of Board and Club operations. We have been able to verify that only part of one of these six excellent recommendations was ever acted on by our current Board.
Now is our chance to vote in “new blood.” Let us seize the moment and see if these new board members we can elect will make the Board more responsive to the membership.
A NOTE CONCERNING AGENDA POINT 4 in both 2008 AND 2009 CONVOCATIONS:
This revote on the proposed change to Article 25, Registration of Membership, if passed has the potential to stymie communication among the owners and could result in the Board having unchecked control over the owners. It is not about privacy to prevent identity theft. Criminals need Social Security, Credit Card or Bank Account numbers to steal your identity-- There is no risk of identity theft simply because a fellow club member has your name and mailing address. Members must have the ability to know each other and communicate with each other should they desire to do so. We highly recommend that the membership vote AGAINST this identical proposal from the 2008 Convocation which was defeated last year and has been resubmitted again by the Board. This Article on name and address availability has been a part of the club documents for 30 plus years. It was an important right and provision for the membership at the conception of our club and is even more important today!
Vote on Agenda Point 4 : AGAINST
Vote for 3 Board members: D. BERG A. ROSS and D. LOUX
